Karen Lucas Cowley, of Irving, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013. She was born October 5, 1950 in Irving. She graduated from MacArthur High School in 1967. Karen was a cosmetologist with CVS Pharmacy, formerly Page Pharmacy and Eckerd Drug. She is survived by her husband Bill Cowley of Irving; daughter Rachel Portillo and husband Matthew of Rowlett; son Nicholas Cowley and wife Dayna of Dallas; mother Imogene Cline Lucas of Irving; brother Rodney Lucas and wife Wanda of Irving, and Gary Lucas of Seaside, Oregon; grandchildren Ethan Villanueva, and Tyler Portillo; nieces and nephew Andrea Lucas, Kristina Lucas, and Allen Lucas, Hannah Summer, Holly Lucas, and Lydia Berman; and numerous great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Brown’s Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Arlene Harris, a resident of Irving, went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2013 at the age of 91. Born April 16, 1922 in Salem, Arkansas to William B. Wilson and Mary Lou Warren Wilson, she was the widow of James L. Harris. They married on May 11, 1940 in Caddo, Oklahoma. Arlene was a housewife, church worker and her husband’s helpmate in the grocery business. Her greatest commitment and love were to the Lord, her family, her friends and her church. Included in the many lives she has touched, she leaves behind 4 children, Peggy Davis and husband Leon, Patricia Echols and husband David, Janie Wheless and husband Garry, and James Harris and wife Tamara; 10 grandchildren, Shelley Davis-Crutsinger, Scott Davis and wife Ginger, Steve Echols and wife Kim, David Alan Echols and wife Tracey, Shane Echols and wife Stefanie, Laura Wheless, Kimberly Slaughter and husband Scott, Brandon Harris and wife Lindsey, Preston Harris, and Halston Harris; and 10 great grandchildren, Taylor, Nicki, Shelby, Cody, Kinnsey, Ethan, Christopher, Faith, Ethan, and Leighton; and many extended family members including her best friends, James Brandenburg, Lori Byrd, and Rick Noland. A visitation was held 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home. The funeral service was 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8 at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street, Irving, TX with Pastor John Durham and Wayne Watkins officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

Marvin Ray Reynolds, born October 3, 1939, went to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior on May 4, 2013. He was 73. “Big Marvin” became a Christian during VBS at Hempridge Baptist Church in Waddy, KY. He graduated from Waddy HS, KY, 1957. Served honorably in the Navy from 1957-63. A skilled athlete who enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, but loved playing golf best. Marvin was a Royal Ambassador leader, guiding his RA’s to grow into strong Christian men. Retired from TP&L/TXU after 40 yrs, never missing a day of work. Spent his retirement fishing with his grandchildren at the back pond. Marvin loved to tell of his boyhood days catching catfish with his bare hands down in the “crik”. He could spin a yarn that would make hairs stand on end and send tingles down the spine. He was an ace mechanic and plumbing enthusiast; a man who could repair anything with some spit, elbow grease, and a good amount of duct tape. An amateur barber whose artistic works are chronicled through his sons’ elementary school photos. Always made sure his shoes were polished until they shined and never went anywhere without a comb and handkerchief in his back pocket. He had a huge sweet tooth which included his favorites: cokes, sweet tea, chocolate pie, twinkies, crackerjack, and chocolate malt milkshakes made with vanilla ice cream. Preceded in death by parents William and Louise, eldest son Marvin Ray II, brothers Terry, Butch, James, sisters Tina, Betty. Survived by Susie Gaye, his loving wife of 46 yrs, children, grandchildren, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation was held on May 9, 6-8PM at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home. Service was May 10, at 10 AM at FBC Irving, 403 S. Main St, Irving. Laid to rest with military honors at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

He died Saturday, April 27, 2013 in a Brownwood nursing facility. George Holmes Lovelace was born on October 27, 1919 in Brown County to George Thomas and Katie Sandol (Martin) Lovelace. He attended Woodland Heights and Indian Creek schools before graduating from Buffalo High School in 1939. He went to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers in the construction of Camp Bowie. He also worked for Crystal Ice. George married Ila Mae Damron of Blanket on September 11, 1943. In that same year, George and Ila moved to Irving where he went to work for Sperry Rand Corporation. He was a member of the Zephyr United Methodist Church. George was a Boy Scout leader while living in Irving and an excellent guitar player. He and friends and relatives played for many area nursing homes. He was known for his carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills. He came from a time when you had to fix things instead of replacing them. He retired to Blanket in 1988 and fulfilled his dream of being a farmer.  Mr. Lovelace was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle.  He loved family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of fifty-eight years, two brothers Reuben Patrick Lovelace, Thomas Martin Lovelace, sisters Zeola Frances Johnson, Otie Angenette Cason and Mary Blanche Jones, a young brother Benny Lovelace and twins sisters. Those left to cherish his memories are son Randall Lovelace and wife Shirley of Zephyr; a grandson Jason Lovelace and wife Kerry of Round Rock; two great-grandsons, Jason Kyle Lovelace and Matt Murdock; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Harvey Christianson

Harvey Christianson, a resident of Irving since 1963, died on April 4, 2013. He is survived by his wife Doris, and brother Galen. He is also survived by five daughters and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Always an avid follower of politics, sports, and news, he was committed to being knowledgeable about local and national events. He hunted for many years with family and friends, and also fished, but rarely caught anything and never gave up trying. He is preceded in death by his sister Dawn, brother Calvin, his parents, great nephews Bradley and Matt Buryska, and grandson Jason Smith. Harvey was loved by all and we will miss him until we are all together again. A Committal service will be held at 10:15 AM Friday, April 19, 2013 at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy. in Dallas. A Memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 N. O’Connor Rd. in Irving. Arrangements made by Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home.


Maxine Odom Prude

Maxine Odom Prude was born on February 1, 1930 in Reagor Springs, Texas. Passed away on April 6, 2013 after an extended illness. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Arch C. Prude. She is survived by her three children, sons Chip Prude, Michael Prude and daughter Gayle Prude Schmidt; Granddaughter Lauren Prude Buescher and husband Eric. Daughter In Law Lisa Prude, Son in Law Thomas Schmidt, Step grandchildren Matthew Schmidt, Kelly Schmidt Bickford, and husband Mike. Great grandchildren Madelynn Bickford and Brayden Bickford, and numerous other relatives and friends. Maxine was partner in Bryan-Prude Real Estate, Assistant Business Director at Irving Hospital Systems, and owner of Bloomtown Florist in Euless, Texas. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She was very involved in Beltline Road Church of Christ for over 30 years. Visitation was held Tuesday April 9th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Coppell Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at Beltline Road Church of Christ, located at 1202 North Beltline Road in Irving, Texas 75061 at 10:00AM, Wednesday April 10, 2013. Interment immediately followed at Restland Rolling Oaks, in Coppell on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to Michael J. He was born April 19, 1932 in Novinger, Missouri to parents Merriett E. and Sadie D. (Johnson) Reese. John was a life-long Presbyterian. He was a member and Deacon of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving. He had a long career in the wholesale hobby and craft industry. John loved his family, golf, and tennis, and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Pat Reese of Irving; sons Johnnie of Greentop, Missouri, Jerry and Teresa, and Joel and wife Mary, all of the Dallas area; grandchildren Christi, Emily, and Lauren; and sister Norma Lou Goucher of Novinger. The Reese family wishes to express thanks to Sue Boyd and the staff at Avalon Residential Care Home and also VITAS Hospice for the exemplary care and support given to John and the family. Ella Lucille Sublett

She loved the color pink, cameos, Dr. Peppers, her own delectable peach cobbler, the 60’s & 70’s Dallas Cowboys (she wouldn’t watch after “Roger Dodger” retired), Rambo her American Eskimo, and most of all, her family. Lucille was born September 26, 1914, the second of eight children to Edwin and Blanch Mae (Collett) Bourland in Matador, Texas. She was the epitome of the true Texan woman. In her youth, she could plow a corn field (mule or tractor) straighter than her brothers, and with equal expertise, roll a perm in her beauty shop. She married Charles “Lum” Columbus Sublett, and had 3 children. They moved from Dallas in the late 30’s to Irving where she remained the rest of her life. Lucille ran the bus station in Irving before opening her own beauty salon in 1960. She retired from beauty work in the 80’s, but idleness was not in her nature. She began working at the World Trade Center as a cook, and later utilized her considerable baking and cooking talents as a caterer. She went on to work as a pastry chef for the IISD for 18 years, taking mandatory retirement at age 85. In the last 13 years of her life she enjoyed travelling extensively, gardening, crocheting, taking Silver Sneakers exercise classes, and freelance catering. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Lum Sublett, and her “bestest” friend, Juanita Britain. She is survived by her three children, Charles Sublett, wife Delores, Don Sublett, wife Ellen, and Shirley Sublett Bass. She had five grandchildren, Cindy Sublett Dowdy, Suzanne Sublett Pluta, Freddy Akin, Don Sublett Jr., and Greg Bass. She had eight great grandchildren, Gary Bass, Garth Bass, Garren Bass, Austin Sublett, Justin Sublett, Brenna Manzare, Bree Manzare, Matthew Akin and one great-great grandson, Gauge Bass. Her memorial service was held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Irving where she was a long time member. Rev. Mike Walker performed her service. Coach Tom Uhr and Collin Randle sang. Memorials may be made to The First Methodist Church, 211 W. Third St., Irving, Texas 75060.

Alton Ray Tucker, age 69, of Forney, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born May 31, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Alton Hoyt and Mattie Mae, his parents precede him in death. Alton was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Alton is also preceded in death by his sister, Karen Ann Brence; granddaughter, Adeline Rose Wright. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue Tucker; daughters, Tonya Wright and husband, Brant, Shawnna Calhoun and husband, David; grandchildren, Garrett and Carson Wright; sibilings, Marla Beard and husband, Bill, Wanda McLane, and Bill Tucker; brother-in-law, Larry Brence, and Mann Pierce; numerous other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Forney, 1003 College Street (FM 741) in Forney. Donald Lee Bailey, of Irving, passed away April 2, 2013. He was born December 26, 1941 in Dallas, to Leonard Odell Bailey and Juanita (Brown) Bailey. He is survived by his son, Scooter Bailey; granddaughter, Hannah Bailey; grandson, Dylan Brown; sister, Dorothy Cason; sister-in-law, Laura Bailey; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at Noon Friday, April 5, 2013, at Kit Cemetery in Irving, officiated by Chaplain Shirley Stark. Arrangements made by Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home.

Cecelia Ann Heflin

Cecelia Ann Heflin, age 65 of Venus, TX, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013. She was born September 30, 1947 to O.M. and Cora Cherry in Sulphur Springs, TX. Her mother precedes her in death. As a child, Cecelia always loved being outside riding her bicycle. According to her father she loved it so much she wore two of them out. Cecelia was a member of the 4H club in Barstow, Texas where she grew up and Graduated from Irving High School. She worked for the Irving ISD driving a school bus, which was one of her favorite jobs. Later in life Cecelia turned to Accounting and ended up working for PHH for 20 years. She loved horses and through the years owned a couple. Most of all Cecelia loved her family, children, grandchildren and her great- grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Jason Heflin and wife, Renee; daughter, Stacy Cody and husband, Robby; father, O.M. Cherry and wife, Delores; brother Doug Cherry and wife Martha and sister Jeanne Walker. Grandchildren, Brittany, Randy and wife, Stephanie, Lillian, Trenton, and Anyssa; great grandchildren, Jaiden, Colton, and Conor, nieces and nephews Joyce, Elizabeth, Mark ,Todd, Amy, Robin, and numerous great nieces and nephews, family and friends and her dog, Hailey which she loved very much. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Oak View Baptist Church in Irving. Cecelia will forever be in our hearts.

Born on a white Christmas Morning on her parents farm, Doris Christene Melton "Tene” to her friends came into the world. She had 11 brothers and sisters. She attended Frost High where she was a cheerleader. She married her best friend, Syble's cousin while he was home on leave from WW II. She was 17 years old. Ethan and Christene were stationed in Charlotte, North Carolina until War was over. She was very homesick being away from her big family. They moved to Oak Cliff where their son David was born in 1949. Daughter Chrisanne followed in 1952. The family moved to Irving, Texas in 1953. Ethan and Christene both worked in Grand Prairie for LTV. Christene was a PBX operator at LTV. She later worked at Scotty Aluminum Products where she retired in 1991. Christene and Ethan lived in the same house on Lawrence Street for over 50 years. They attended Plymouth Park Baptist Church for 5 decades. Christene will always be remembered for her good deeds. Always taking care of others especially when they were sick or their spirits were broken. She so loved her trips with her church JOY group. After she retired she traveled the country with her husband, Big Irv, Ethan’s only brother, and his wife Jean. Christene loved to cook, laugh, play dominos, and had a passion for shopping. She so loved her TEXAS RANGERS AND DALLAS MAVERICKS! She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ethan W. Melton. She is survived by son, David Melton and wife Lucy; daughter, Chrisanne and her Four Star Husband, Jeff Lanier; grandchildren, Kealey Melton, Casey Melton and his wife Natalie, Morgan Rochas and her husband Jaime Rochas; great grandchildren, include Donovan, Kobe, Sydney and Presley. She is also survived by her brother, Ramsey Fields and his wife Joyce; and many cousins and other family members. A special thanks to the wonderful women at Cimmaron house in Lewisville for all their love and care during her lengthy illness. A visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Monday at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home. Service was 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2 at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving with Pastor Ken Branam officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

Martha Alice Messler passed away on April 1, 2013. Martha was born on May 6, 1924 in pleasant hill, Missouri to Howard & Martha  Kyle. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dale Messler; two daughters, Cheryl Davidson & Joyce Herdman; one granddaughter, Trisha Sheffield and one grandson, Joshua Herdman; and two great grandchildren, Lauren & Mason Sheffield. Martha & Dale lived in Irving and were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran church from 1954 to 1984. They moved to Granbury, Texas in 1984; and returned to Irving to be near family in 2006.

Gilbert Wayne Archer, of Irving, for 74 years, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013. He was born December 30, 1936 in Lueders, Texas to parents A.G. and Faye (Elliott) Archer. He was a proud Union Bricklayer for 50 years. Gilbert was an IGSL Coach and Manager for 14 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Jenkins. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Archer of Irving; daughters Julie Pendergraph, and Lori Prather and husband Rick; grandchildren Christi Jackson, Scott Seago, Brent Jackson, Nathan Jackson, and Amber Green; great grandchildren Calob Skaines, Brenden Seago, and Sierra Green; brothers Joe Archer and wife Joyce, and Larry Archer and wife Libby; sister Lynda Walker; mother-in-law Iva Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
